BCG Group, the Kochi-based builders, is diversifying into healthcare by setting up a multi-disciplinary health mall in the city.

Health mall

Set up with an investment of Rs 50 crore, the BCG Health Square is spread over 1,10,000 sq ft to provide all health and wellness activities under one roof. Ms Rekha C. Babu, CEO, BCG Group said that the project will be commissioned at Palarivattom in August, and will house health-related retail stores dealing with pharmacy, optical ware, skin care products, cosmetics, ayurvedic and herbal products and so on.

Medical colleges, hospitals, ayurvedic centres and insurance companies can set up their referral centres in the second floor. The fourth and fifth floors will have wellness clinics and rejuvenation centres. She said that three of the major national healthcare hospital chains have shown interest in the project.

Multiple malls under the brand BCG Health Square will come up soon ? a total of 6 malls, 2 in Ernakulam district and four others in Kottayam, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram respectively. ?We hope to achieve this in the next five years with the Health Square brand adding Rs 30-40 crore to the group's turnover of Rs 68 crore as of now,? she said, adding that such health malls are found in Singapore, Malaysia, USA and Europe.

In the long term

Ms Renu C. Babu, Managing Director of the company, said that their long-term plan is to set up 7.5 lakh sq ft of a health village with a super-speciality hospital along with residential solutions for individuals who require prolonged medical attention and healthcare. The company is in talks with leading service providers in the country and abroad to manage a 400-bed hospital in Kochi. The estimated cost of the health village is around Rs 400 crore, she said.

The company has also taken the initiative to develop close to 16 lakh sq ft of space for sectors like education. As part of this initiative, the BCG Education services have already launched two schools in the State under the brand name Guardian Public School in association with Manipal K-12 services. These schools, coming up in Ernakulam and Palakkad from 2011-12, will have world-class infrastructure and the best of academic standards.
