The Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Dr Farooq Abdullah, has assured the biomass power producers that he would take up their cause with the Ministry of Power and Ministry of Finance.
Representatives of biomass power producers met the Minister last week and apprised him of the problems that they were facing – mainly, low tariff and mounting costs of, and difficulties in, procuring raw material. They said that many of the biomass power plants had become economically unviable and had to be shut.
