Durgapur Steel Plant produced 1.89 million tonnes (mt) of saleable steel operating at 119 per cent capacity in 2010-11, a DSP note said on Tuesday. It also set a total saleable steel dispatch record at 1.92 mt.
DSP, one of SAIL units, supplied 30,108 loco wheels, highest ever, to the Indian Railways, marking an increase 27 per cent over the previous financial year. Production of special steels and value added products shot up to an all-time high of 1.28 mt, which represented 68 per cent of the total saleable steel output. DSP developed several new products including EMU wheels, an import substitution, concast blooms for telecom towers and special steel for Ganga bridge project.
