Between April and December 2010, Eastern Railway handled three per cent more originating traffic vis-à-vis the corresponding period last year, 39.54 million tonnes (38.4 mt). Earning from the originating traffic during the period was up one per cent to Rs 2,324 crore (Rs 2310 crore). The earnings from apportioned traffic increased 13.84 per cent to Rs 1655 crore (Rs 1463 crore). This was revealed at the meeting of Zonal Railway Users' Consultative Committee meeting held here on Wednesday. Mr Varun Bharthuar, General Manager of ER, said the total earnings of ER during the period increased 3.18 per cent to Rs 3546.12 crore (Rs 3496.9 crore). The passenger volume during the period increased 9.95 per cent to 82.99 crore.
