Floatel Manor is planning to launch a five-star floating hotel off Mumbai coast, according to its managing director Mr Manab Pal.
The company at present runs a similar establishment in the Hooghly river in Kolkata.
The proposed hotel, which will be a ship stationed in shallow waters and complete with 150 rooms, 10 banquet halls and three restaurants, will entail an investment of Rs 250 crore.
“We're also scouting for a financial partner to launch a similar project at Sabarmati river off Ahmedabad,” Mr Pal said in a statement.
Cost advantage
While a floating hotel off the coast will be much cheaper than a similar land-based project in Mumbai, the technology of keeping a large ship floating in sea near the coastline is critical.
It will also require clearances from various authorities such as defence, environment, surface transport and others, the statement added.
