The Hyderabad-based Global Hospitals Group would invest nearly Rs 1,500 crore over the next five years to expand its footprint across all major cities in India and double the number of beds from the existing 2,000.
The Group, which currently runs nine modern healthcare facilities in Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore, is all set to open a world-class hospital in Mumbai in April this year, said Dr K. Ravindranath, Chairman and Managing Director, who was here on Wednesday in connection with the launch an information and telemedicine centre.

The centre, inaugurated by the Gujarat Health Minister, Mr Jaynarayan Vyas, would act as a virtual consultation-cum-clinic through video-conferencing for patients from Gujarat and neighbouring states.
The decade-old Global Hospitals Group, the fifth largest hospitals chain in India and the country's only hospital chain linked to The Kings' College, London, will focus on its next ventures in Kolkata and New Delhi in the coming months, he told Business Line.
Tier I & II cities
After setting its footprint in all the metropolitan cities, the Group would expand the hospital chain to Tier-I and II cities such as Ahmedabad, Bhubaneshwar, Jaipur and Visakhapatnam until 2015.
Dr Ravindranath said the Group, having tertiary healthcare multi-specialty facilities, is focusing mainly on multi-organ transplant facilities. It is coming to Gujarat “very soon”.

More than 40 Gujaratis have undergone liver transplant alone in Global Hospitals in the recent past. With the telemedicine centre in Ahmedabad, they, as also others, would no longer have to travel to the southern states for follow-up cure and care or specialist opinion, second opinion or consultation.
The Mumbai hospital, also a tertiary care and multi-organ transplant centre, will have 500 beds.
The Ahmedabad telemedicine centre will conduct super-specialist clinics for patients through video-conferencing and periodically organise clinics by specialists visiting the city in person.
