Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC) has entered into a tie up with a Czech company Vitkovice to mark its foray into the nuclear segment.
Mr G.K. Pillai, Chairman and Managing Director, HEC, said that the memorandum of understanding with the company was for technical co-operation primarily in the field of thermal and nuclear power plants
“We plan to have a technical tie up with Vitkovice for our Foundry Forge Plant. We will get their technical expertise to upgrade our capabilities and strengthen our foray into the nuclear segment,” he said.
HEC would also foray into manufacturing of underground coal mining equipment and is in talks with companies in Europe and America for the technical know how for the same.
“We are in advanced stages of discussion with some European and American companies for venturing into underground mining equipments and we are hopeful of firming up our plans by September this year,” he told Business Line .
HEC would initially look at entering into a technical collaboration with the company and then possibly look at a joint venture arrangement. “Initially it will be collaboration without any financial arrangement. We will import the machinery and if required manufacture some parts locally,” he said.
HEC had the necessary equipments and manufacturing set up for venturing into the segment.
“All we need now is the technical know-how. There are not too many people manufacturing underground coal mining equipments in the country at present, so we see a huge opportunity here,” he pointed out.
