Consumer electronics company Haier India is set to double its turnover to Rs 1,700 crore this fiscal by venturing into new segments, besides increasing distribution.

Laptops, cameras and the home theatre segment are the three new segments the company would enter this year, Mr Eric Braganza, President, Haier Appliances (India) Ltd, said. “By March , we would be launching 11 laptop models. 2011 would also see us coming out with a new range of cameras,” he added. The company, which entered the Indian market in 2004, also plans to re-enter the dish-washer segment.

Retail expansion

Last year, the Chinese electronics manufacturer grew by 135 per cent from Rs 350 crore to Rs 825 crore. “One of the reasons for our growth was the Haier experience centres and zones which currently stand at 85. All categories which were launched in 2010 were received well,” Mr Braganza said.

Haier experience centres and zones are service centres. The company wants to increase this number to 120 this fiscal. “Also, this year the company will not be looking at any capital expenditure as the factory has already been expanded,” he added.
