The iconic American motorcycle brand Harley-Davidson, which completed five years in India, is planning to roll out three more bikes in the next couple of months, adding to its current portfolio of 11 bikes.

Harley bikes are priced in India between ₹4.1 lakh and ₹29 lakh.

“It looks as if it was just the other day we began our operations in India with the first dealership at Hyderabad. We have over 6,000 customers and a manufacturing unit backed by a network of 15 dealers in India. But what is significant is that even people living far away from our dealer networks have begun to acquire our bikes,” said Anoop Prakash, Managing Director of Harley-Davidson India.

“We entered India in 2009 when the market for such bikes we offer was not defined. The Harley brand and its bikes have now a strong following with bikes in every corner of India. If the first regional rally attracted 200 bikers, it has grown to 350 in the second and 650 now,” Prakash told BusinessLine .

The manufacturing unit in Haryana, which Harley set up in India in 2011, assembles eight motorcycles and the first one, Street 750, has been built in India.

The Street 750 is exported to Europe and other parts of Asia. It was launched for ₹6.5 lakh in 2009, but is sold at ₹4.1 lakh now as it’s being manufactured here.

Most of the bikers who own 250 cc bikes and above aspire to acquire Harleys. They are typically self-made people in the age group of 30-45, who simply love biking. The trade-off is quality and value, he explained.

As a part of Harley bike owners’ bonding initiative, the company conducts rallies. This time, more than 650 bikers from New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore and other parts of the country will join a rally in Hyderabad.
