West Bengal Commerce and Industry Minister, Mr Partha Chatterjee, on Saturday urged big industrial houses to come forward and take initiatives to revive sick units in the State.

“Larger industrial houses need to come forward for revival of sick units in the state. A proposal in this regard has come from the core group (of Cabinet Ministers and industry leaders),” Mr Chatterjee said.

He was speaking at the 13th Global Leadership Forum Management awards where Mr Sanjay Budhia, Managing Director of Patton, was given the industry leader award.

The Minister, however, did not clarify as to whether such a process has begun or if any such initiative has been put forward by the industrial houses.

Single Window

According to Mr Chatterjee, steps have been taken to simplify the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation's single window system.

Attempts are being made to reduce the number of forms required to start a new business to 15 from 99.

“Following a series of meetings of the core group it was decided that the number of forms be brought down to 15 as this would reduce time for investors,” Mr Chatterjee said.

Reiterating that there would be no forcible land acquisition, he added that the process of industrialisation in West Bengal will be taken forward.
