Indian Hotels Company Ltd, which owns the Taj group of hotels, has won the Gallup Great Workplace Award 2011.

This is the second time the company is receiving this award, which is given on the basis of a set of criteria, including employee satisfaction, said a senior company official.

The other Indian recipient of the award this year is Bharti Airtel Ltd. “This is a great honour for the group as the award is given after taking into account several factors,” said Mr H.N. Shirnivas, Senior Vice-President, Human Resources, Indian Hotels Company Ltd.

The award is given in recognition of the company's ability to create “an engaged workplace culture”.

According to him, the employee engagement is a major factor that drives the success of any company. “Taj Group which enjoys a high loyalty factor has one the lowest employee turnover in the sector. We identify school students with right attitude and train them for different jobs.

“Besides our regular training, we do conduct special programme to inculcate a work culture that is crucial to the hospitality sector,” said Mr Shrinivas. The group also runs skill development centres across the country where students from villages were trained in basic skills.
