JSW Cement Ltd, which has its manufacturing unit at Nandyal in Kurnool district, sells clean, eco-friendly slag cement in the market at a slightly lesser price than ordinary cement, according to Mr R.C. Sodani, CEO and Director.

He said JSW has set up a 5-million tonne modern cement plant at Nandyal at a cost of Rs 1,500 crore.

The slag is being supplied by the company’s steel plant in Karnataka.

“Our cement unit is in production for the past six months and the market response has been very encouraging so far,” he said at a press meet here on Friday.

At present, the company sells slag cement in the southern States and parts of Maharashtra. It would reach other markets in due course of time, he said. He said the quality of slag is very high as the JSW steel plant in Karnataka uses modern technology.

“Without compromising on quality, we sell our cement at a slightly lesser cost — Rs 5 less for a bag than ordinary cement. We are sure it will make inroads into the market,” he said.

Total capacity

Mr Sodani said the company has two smaller cement plants in Karnataka and the total capacity of all the cement plants in the JSW group at present is 5.2 million tonnes.

“We have plans to take it up to 20 million tonnes per annum by 2020 at an additional investment of Rs 5,000 crore,” he said.

He added the group plans to set up more cement units in Rajasthan, West Bengal and also one near Gulbarga in Karnataka.
