Engineering and construction major Larsen & Toubro said on Thursday that it has delivered the first four dry shielded canisters for Transnuclear, US, an Areva company.
The canisters form a part of the order for 50 such units for three leading American nuclear power plant operators.
L&T said the units were manufactured in accordance to the US Code of Federal Regulations and Nuclear Safety Class-1 standards.
Mr M.V. Kotwal, President — Heavy Engineering, L&T, said, “At L&T we take pride in exporting first nuclear equipment consignment to the US. This marks an international recognition of our capabilities and also the first steps in participating in the potentially large global nuclear equipment market.”
L&T is currently the only Indian manufacturer authorised by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers to use ‘N', ‘NPT', ‘NA' stamps and ‘NS' certification for enabling design and manufacture and construction of nuclear island equipment according to American standards.
L&T serves the power sector across the entire spectrum, from design services to equipment manufacture, erection, construction and commissioning of projects on a turnkey basis.
