L&T's Electrical & Automation (E&A) division has filed 162 patent applications for its electrical and automation products in 2011-2012.

L&T said this is the fifth consecutive year that the E&A has filed for over 100 patents.

Along with the patents applications, the division filed 16 trademark applications, 10 design registrations and nine copyrights. The division also filed 10 international patent applications through the Patent Cooperation Treaty during the year.

Mr S. C. Bhargava, Senior Vice-President & Head of E&A, said, “This feat has been achieved with continuous improvement in processes and regular investment in research and development.”

The work is spread across a diverse portfolio of designs in fields that include electrical, mechanical, marine engineering, defence infrastructure, healthcare and engineering.

The patent applications have largely emanated out of economic needs to retain competitive advantage, remain environmental friendly and deliver more safety and value to customers, he said. From 1999-2000 to 2011-12, E&A has filed 856 patent applications, 256 design registrations, 110 trademark applications and 20 copyright applications.
