As part of the resurrection plan for the Logan sedan, Mahindra said on Monday that the product name will be changed to ‘Verito'. This is in line with a company tradition where most vehicle model names, such as Scorpio and Bolero, end with an ‘O'.

“We are delighted to announce that the Logan will now be called the Verito. It will sport the Mahindra badge and emblem,” said a company statement.

In April last year, Mahindra had bought out Renault's stake in a joint venture where it held a 51 per cent stake. Set up in 2005, the joint venture produced the Logan from Mahindra's Nashik plant and set up its own dealerships network.

Under the agreement, the French automaker continued to provide key components and product support and allowed the use of the brand till end-2011.

Redisign

Mahindra is reportedly working on two redesigned variants of the Verito – a sedan and a hatchback. While the former is expected to be launched this year itself, the latter would only hit dealerships by early 2012.

The Logan had seen lower-than-expected sales last year due to the high pricing vis-à-vis the competition in the entry-level sedan segment. Sales in April-January, 2009-10 had clocked in at 4,444 units, as compared to 11,453 units in the same period in 2008-09. However, after the Mahindra assumed complete control, sales went up to 6,720 units in April-December, 2010-11.
