Murugappa Morgan Thermal Ceramics Ltd (MMTCL) will invest nearly Rs 60 crore in the next three years to expand capacities at its manufacturing plants in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. The company, which launched “Kaowool paper”, a specialty insulating paper manufactured at its plant at Kalol in Mehsana district of Gujarat, said the new product had applications in a range of industries like iron and steel, ceramic and glass, automotive and aerospace.
MMTCL, which started its Gujarat plant in 2006 as the third global facility of Morgan Crucible Company, plans to double its capacities at the 325-tonne per annum Gujarat plant and sales in the next three years, said Mr Rajeev Murthy, Business Head. The company currently has a 40 per cent share in the Rs 250-crore Indian market. The Mehsana plant will also make India's first health-friendly (bio-soluble) ‘Superwool paper' for industry.
The indigenously-made Kaowool paper will enable the end-user industries / customers of insulating paper products to replace imports from China. MMTCL is a joint venture between Thermal Ceramics Division of Morgan Crucible Company, UK, and CUMI, India, with Morgan Crucible Company holding 51per cent of the equity. MMTCL is in the business of engineered solutions for high temperature insulation.
