Pawan Hans chief to head HAL

The current Chairman and Managing Director of Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd, Mr R.K. Tyagi is to be the next Chairman of the Bangalore headquartered Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. The Public Enterprises Selection Board recommended Mr Tyagi name as Chairman HAL after interviewing three other persons.

The other contenders for the post were Mr S.K. Tripathi, Chairman and Managing Director, MSTC, and Mr S.N. Mishra from the Ministry of Defence. In 1964, HAL (the erstwhile Hindustan Aircraft Ltd) was merged with Aeronautics India Ltd and Aircraft Manufacturing Depot, Kanpur. Today, HAL has 19 production units and 10 research & design centres in eight locations around the country.

The company has an impressive product track record – 15 types of aircraft/helicopters manufactured with in-house R&D and 14 types produced under licence. HAL has also been involved in the manufacturer of doors for Airbus A-320 aircraft for the European aircraft manufacturer.
