From a record 400 nominations, the awards committee short-listed 39 finalists. The jury has selected seven winners in the second edition of the southern regional emerging entrepreneur awards, given by the Confederation of Indian Industry in association with The Hindu Business Line .
“It was a challenging task of selecting the winners from the short-list of achievers from the southern States,” says P.K. Mohapatra, Chairman of the awards jury. Insights from several global models coupled with inputs from knowledge partner Grant Thornton made the selection process robust, he says.
The awards committee screened the nominations and short-listed 39 names for the jury to choose from. Criteria such as performance and growth, greatest achievement, innovation, sustainability of the business model, competitive standing and strength of the management team were looked into before picking the winners.
According to Mohapatra, the jury deliberated on different parameters such as vision, execution excellence, ability to build an institution, personal leadership abilities, impact on society and sustainability, as well as scalability.
“We believe all the 400 nominees are winners as they have chosen to take the risks of being an entrepreneur,” says C.K. Ranganathan, Chairman, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Task Force, CII-Southern Region.
Identifying awardees who have achieved excellence is in itself a daunting task. Here we raise the bar even further to predict who among those emerging today, will be at the top of the league table in the next 10 or 20 years. This award is as much for potential future achievement as for the distance they have come so far, says R. Ramaraj, Vice-Chairman, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Task Force.
The jury included T.T. Ashok, former Chairman, CII SR &, Managing Director, Taylor Rubber Pvt Ltd; K. Venugopal, Director, Kasturi & Sons Ltd; Suchitra Ella, Chairperson, CII-AP, Joint Managing Director, Bharat Biotech International Ltd; M. Ponnuswami, Chairman & Managing Director, Pure Chem (P) Ltd; and, Sachin Bansal , Chief Executive Officer, Flipkart Online Services Pvt Ltd.
Business Line profiles the seven winners of the Southern Regional Emerging Entrepreneurs Awards 2012. The awards were given away in Hyderabad on Saturday.
