Reliance Digital, part of Mukesh Ambani-led RIL group’s retail arm, has nearly tripled the number of its stores in the past one year to become the country’s largest electronic retail chain.

With an addition of 16 stores during the last month March 2012 alone, the total number of Reliance Digital outlets has reached 75, from 27 stores a year ago.

During the year ended March 31, 2012, a total of 48 stores were opened by Reliance Digital, which sells consumer durable products and electronics goods across various brands.

Reliance Digital CEO Mr Brian Bade said that a number of key initiatives have been lined up for this year to further boost the business.

“The year promises an excellent outlook with the pathway to future studded with a number of key initiatives that are in the offing, waiting at the wings, and ready to take center-stage as they propel the business forward,” he added.

Mr Bade further said that a robust Human Resources program would be launched this year to create a strong workforce, while initiatives were also lined up to strengthen the Reliance Digital brand and for better customer experience.

Reliance Digital is part of Reliance Retail, the retail business arm of the Reliance Industries group, which is also present across businesses like energy and polyester and is working towards a major presence in financial services and broadband segments among others.

On an average, the number of Reliance Digital stores has doubled every year since the launch of its first outlet about five years ago in 2007.

“We are the only Indian retailer to offer single window solutions for sale and service support across all major brands,” Mr Bade said.

Reliance Digital offers over 150 international and national brands and more than 4,000 products.
