Shilpa Architects, Planners and Designers, based in Chennai, has bagged the mandate to design and develop a large convention centre for Hitex, near the IT hub of Hyderabad and another large project spread over multiple locations for IL&FS.

The architecting and consultancy firm, which has worked on some of the marquee projects in India and abroad, has made its entry into Hyderabad with the mandate to design and develop a one lakh square feet Convention Centre close to the Hitex exhibition centre. “This could potentially mean an investment of about Rs 50 crore and will compliment the exhibition and display facilities,” said Ms Sheila Sri Prakash, Chief Architect at Shipa.

Speaking to a group of journalists, Ms Sheila, who has been invited as a member of the World Economic Forum's (WEF) Global Agenda Council (GAC) on design innovation, said that the project could take up to three years to be completed from design to finish.

Referring to some of the marquee projects which the consulting firm Shilpa is working on, she said that Mahindra World City located about 50 acres from Chennai is looking at developing what she described as a reciprocity index. This index shows how various design elements within a building work harmoniously to yield long-term results bringing in savings through lower energy and water consumption.

She said that the consultancy is also working with IVRCL group for their 800-area golf course project near Chennai.
