Mr A. Sivasailam, Chairman and Managing Director of the Chennai-based Amalgamations, passed away today. He was 76 and is survived by his daughters — Ms Mallika Srinivasan, Vice-Chairman, Tractors and Farm Equipment Ltd (TAFE), and Ms Jayashree Venkatraman, Director, TAFE. Mr Sivasailam was on a pilgrimage to Sringeri in Karnataka when he died.
A graduate from the University of Madras, he did a stint with a chartered accountants firm in London. He returned to join the group in 1957 and became its chairman in 1968. Under him, the group's turnover has grown from Rs 35 crore in 1961 to Rs 7,000 crore now.
