Skyworth, the Hong Kong-based electronics and home appliances conglomerate, has launched a wide range of television sets in India, including what it describes as the first Ultra High Definition TV.‬

‪The $5-billion company, which commenced operations in Hyderabad in 2010-11, plans to go pan India by the end of 2013.

‬“"We are also in the process of finalising plans for the launch of home appliances from Skyworth including washing machines, refrigerators and air-conditioners. As a part of the expansion and addition of portfolio, we are also considering a manufacturing unit in India,’’ Micheal Qi Yong, Managing Director of Skyworth in India, told Business Line.‬

‪Launching the Ultra High Definition TV at the All India Industrial Exhibition here, he said that the Ultra HD TV, with 165 cms display offers nearly four times the clarity of conventional HD TV. It is priced at about Rs 6.5 lakh, nearly twice that of HD TV range.‬

Skyworth, which already has tie-ups with some of the Indian companies such as Reliance, Airtel, Hathway, Tatasky, among others, as a suppler of set-top boxes for the direct to home business, is seeking to play a bigger role in India.‬

“We have completed the test-marketing phase of the TV sets with the launch in Andhra Pradesh and later in other States in the South and we will now go pan-India. This will enable us to get a bigger slice of the Indian market, as we have the capability to offer high-quality products at extremely competitive prices,’’ he said.‬

‪The Skyworth team has had discussions with the Government for locating a manufacturing unit. A delegation from Hong Kong and Shenzhen will finalise the pans, he said.‬
