Radaan Media Works India Ltd, a television content producer which later got into film production, is now planning to foray into the movie distribution business.

“We have a professional team in place to run the distribution vertical in a fair and transparent manner,” Ms Radikaa Sarathkumar, Chairperson of the company, told Business Line .

The Tamil film industry produces over 150 films a year. With close to Rs 750 crore a year, it accounts for 45 per cent of the South Indian film industry, and “depends heavily on domestic theatrical revenues, which contribute four-fifths of the total revenues earned by films,” says a research report by by Ernst & Young.

Recently, Ms Radikaa had said the company is on the look out for a strategic partner to infuse funds as equity to meet its working capital requirements and its proposed “capital expenditure”.

The company currently produces TV content in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Sinhalese. It has also got into Gujarati and Hindi content. It has so far produced one Telugu film Dhum and four Tamil films Jithan, Kannamuchi Yenada, Thalaimagan and Jaggubhai.

Besides, it has also decided to foray into the acting academy business in association with Bollywood film star Anupam Kher's acting school, Actor Prepares.
