Tata Power said the Supreme Court has asked the Centre and Reliance Power to respond within four weeks to its petition challenging the Government's decision to allow the use of coal from mines allotted to R Power's Sasan project to the latter's Chittrangi project.
Tata Power said it had challenged the Government order as coal mines are allotted only to ultra mega power projects (UMPP) and R Power's Chittrangi project would have to buy coal from the open market.
Norms on Excess coal
Further, according to norms, any excess coal from mines allocated to UMPP would have returned to the Government for allocation to other State projects or other UMPPs.
The Apex Court had directed all respondents, including the Madhya Pradesh Government, Power and Coal Ministries to file their responses and it will have to respond to their submissions after that.
The next hearing has been posted on April 4, Tata Power said.
The scrip of R Power closed on the BSE on Tuesday at Rs 124.25 (Rs 128.25) and Tata Power's at Rs 1,211.55 (Rs 1,194.05)
