One can’t miss those huge beehive replicas if one looks up in the atrium of the Hyatt Regency. The large beehives thriving in the building before Hyatt took over, inspired Namita Saraf, owner of the property on Anna Salai, to create a large art installation inspired by bees.

Taking the idea forward, Hyatt, in association with M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation, National Biodiversity Authority, CPR Environmental Education and Asian Heritage Foundation, today launched a three-day festival – Pollinator 1. The idea is to create awareness on the importance of honey bees in the eco system.

Giving an artistic spin to the theme, Namita Saraf and Rajeev Sethi, designer and artist, have brought together artistic talent to create 55 multimedia installations and artworks at the hotel.

Speaking on the occasion, Arun Saraf, Managing Director, Asian Hotels (East) Ltd, which owns the property, said it was to understand the deep relevance and importance of bees and the role they play in the eco system that Hyatt created the show. “The festival is aimed at bringing to the public domain issues and efforts that are critical to the survival of a threatened species, the survival of the fragile eco system and our environment,” said Namita Saraf.

The theme for Pollinator 1 includes topics such as The Bee Ecology, highlighting the crucial role bees play in propagation and pollination and their effect on agriculture and food supply. One of the other topics of discussion is about bees under threat and what can be done to save them
