Warner Bros’ Consumer Products, which had introduced its exclusive retail concept ‘Kids’ WB’ in India, is now looking at licensing opportunities such as tying up with real estate developers for housing projects.

Known for its properties such as Tom & Jerry, Looney Tunes, Scooby Doo and DC Comics’ Superman and Batman , it had opened its first exclusive store at Coimbatore in a tie-up with a local partner.

Preston Kevin Lewis, Managing Director of Warner Bros Consumer Products, said, “As part of our retail strategy, we are focused on expanding the reach of our products through traditional retail chains and mom-and-pop stores. At the same time, Kids’ WB is a one-stop shop for the entire WB branded merchandise and consumer experience.”

Branded merchandise

After Coimbatore, the company is next looking to set up shop in Delhi and Mumbai. The stores will keep its branded merchandise across apparel, footwear, accessories, toys, stationery, home, publishing, food and personal care, among others. Asked about future expansion, Lewis said that the company is next looking at licensing agreements with real estate developers for branded properties. “We are in talks with various real estate developers,” he said.

The company is also looking at bringing in a lot of live shows featuring its characters. The company also wants to work with advertising agencies offering them the opportunity to use its TV show clips and characters for their campaigns and to build their brands.

He said India is one of its fastest growing markets and it sees a huge potential both from the big and the small cities as its characters gain popularity with kids and families. Tom and Jerry is its most popular character. The company also has plans for introduction of new merchandise timed with the release of movies such as the Godzilla and the Hobbit: There and Back Again in 2014.
