Tamil superstar Rajnikanth's next film Rana , co-produced by Eros International and Soundarya Rajnikanth through Rana Production Ltd, UK, goes on the floor on April 29. The film is being made with a budget well below the Rs 100 crore reported by some sections of the media, clarified a senior Eros official.

Speaking to Business Line , Mr Kamal Jain, Group CFO, Eros International Media Ltd, said, “A budget of over Rs 100 crore does not fit into our business strategy, and we have never produced movies over that figure. It will be much less than that.”

Trilingual release

The release of the trilingual (Tamil, Telugu, Hindi) will be as big as Robot (Enthiran), if not bigger, added the spokesperson. Eros has a 51 per cent stake in Ayngaran Films, which releases 60 to 80 regional language films a year. Rana is slated for release in the first half of 2012.

“The release strategy is yet to be decided. But the number of screens has gone up globally and we are definitely looking at a global release,” added Mr Jain.

Sources inform that Rana's budget would be in the region of Rs 50 to Rs 80 crore, despite shoots planned at overseas locations like London and provisioning for high-end visual effects. It is expected to have a 2,000-plus screen theatrical release.

Interestingly, Eros and Ayngaran had been the original producers of blockbuster Robot , before Sun Pictures bought the film. Robot was produced at a cost of Rs 132 crore, and set the box office on fire netting Sun Pictures Rs 179 crore.
