Commercial vehicle maker AMW Motors on Wednesday launched its heavy-duty Tipper that would cater mainly to the mining and construction sector and said it is expecting the new range to increase volumes for the company.

With the introduction of the two models, AMW Motors’s total truck range would go up to 22. AMW offers trucks ranging from 16 to 49 tonnes.

“This is an important step for us...and we are confident that we will gain market share. The infrastructure, especially mining is important for us. The new products will help us mitigate the slowdown in the sector and we would be able to increase volumes,” AMW managing director & CEO Anirudh Bhuwalka told reporters here at the CII-organised International Mining and Machinery exhibition.

He added that the “low-cost Tipper would also help the company increase presence in smaller projects.”

The new trucks come with higher horse power and better drivelines, Bhuwalka said, adding that the range would be produced at the company’s Bhuj facility.

Asked if the company was planning to set up any more manufacturing facility, he said: “Our Gujarat unit has the production capacity of 50,000 units per annum and that is sufficient for us. So, we do not need to expand at the moment,” he said.

AMW had posted a growth of 60 per cent and sold around 10,000 trucks last fiscal.

The company also plans to open another 10-12 dealerships in the current year, it said. It has over 120 dealerships at present.
