The Ahmedabad-based Anil Group has announced plans to promote the game of chess in the country and made Gujarat's only chess Grand Master Tejas Bakre its brand ambassador.
The association between Mr Bakre and Anil Group is a step towards promoting young sportsmen in the State, said Mr Amol Sheth, Chairman and Managing Director.
The association is an initiative from the Group to encourage and equip bright sportspersons for competitions at the national and international levels, he added.
To promote chess
The Anil Group and Tejas will work jointly towards promoting chess in schools, colleges and other educational institutions in Gujarat and later, across the country.
“We, along with Tejas, plan to run a chess academy to identify promising talents, encourage young and upcoming players and provide a platform to chess enthusiasts to equip themselves for bigger challenges in the national and international arena,” Mr Sheth said.
Mr Bakre said the business approach of Anil Group, which is more strategic in nature due to its presence in diversified industry segments, is similar to the approach adopted in the game of chess where strategy plays a major role in winning.
Tejas Bakre is the first international Grand Master in chess from Gujarat.
