The Exchange had sought clarification from GlaxoSmithkline Consumer Healthcare Ltd with reference to the media report, "Maharashtra FDA notice for Colgate brand, Sensodyne for misleading consumers".

GlaxoSmithkline Consumer Healthcare Ltd response is as follows:-

"This is in response to your query on the media report, "Maharashtra FDA notice for Colgate brand, Sensodyne for misleading consumers". We would like to inform you that GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare Limited (GSKCH) distributes Sensodyne toothpaste as a consignment selling agent of GlaxoSmithKline Asia Private Limited. GlaxoSmithKline Asia Private Limited markets and manufactures (under contract arrangements) the Sensodyne range of products in India. Certain stocks belonging to GlaxoSmithKline Asia Private Limited were subject to a stop sale notice issued in September 2018 by the Drugs Inspector, Thane on the basis that the claim of clinically proven relief and daily protection for sensitive teeth on the packs of Sensodyne toothpaste was misleading. Some samples were also sent by the Drugs Inspector to a government laboratory for analysis. These samples were declared Standard Quality in terms of their compliance to the prescribed standards by the government laboratory in its report dated February 13, 2019.

On 29th March 2019, the Drugs Inspector issued an order of seizure under Form 16 in relation to the said stocks. We would like to state that science forms the core of all product offerings of GlaxoSmithKline and they are manufactured in compliance with strict applicable statutory legal and quality standards. Sensodyne is an international leading toothpaste brand, and claims are based on rigorous scientific studies conducted. We will continue to cooperate with the authorities to clarify any queries pertaining to our claims and license."
