Bajaj Auto has approached the Pune industrial court today to declare the on-going workers’ strike at its Chakan plant as illegal.
In its first press conference on the issue, the company made it clear that though it had several meetings with the workers’ representatives in the last few weeks, its current stand was that no resolution was possible till the strike was withdrawn and production restored.
Addressing reporters at its headquarters at Akurdi Pradeep Shrivastava, COO, Bajaj Auto, said: “No discussions will be held till the workers unconditionally restore production (at Chakan) and withdraw strike. Until then, we will sit tight.”
According to Bajaj Auto, workers belonging to the Vishwakalyan Kamgar Sanghtana, the Union that is operative in Chakan as well as Akurdi, had been progressively sabotaging production in one of two shifts (at its Chakan plant) since late last year.
