The impasse between Bajaj Auto and striking workers at its Chakan plant, now in its 10th day, continues, with Union representatives failing to turn up, either for a meeting with the management at the Pune Labour Commissioner’s office, or for the industrial court hearing.
The Court has now set July 8 as the next date to hear a petition filed by Bajaj Auto on Monday to term the strike illegal. “Today we had a meeting with Additional Labour Commissioner Hendre, but no representative of the Union came for it,” K.J. Zanzari, VP, Manufacturing (Motorcycles), said, adding that no one from the Vishwakalyan Sanghatana was at the court either.
Dilip Pawar, President, VKS, said the Union members were busy attending to cases filed against them at the local police station. Besides, the labour authority had no powers to address the main issue for the strike, which is that each of 900 workers should be given 500 shares of Bajaj Auto at Re 1 per share.
According to Bajaj Auto, the attendance at the Chakan plant is improving, and around 500 workers reported for work today.“We will produce 1,800 motorcycles, including 600 at Waluj, today,” Zanzari said.
