World’s largest auto parts maker Bosch has opened its 14th manufacturing plant in India near Bengaluru to make components for diesel engines.
The company has so far invested ₹340 crore in the plant, which is the first phase of Bosch’s expansion plan.
“Bosch is on track to double sales in Asia-Pacific by 2020,” Peter Tyroller, member of the board of the management of the Bosch Group said at an event organised on the occasion.
The company plans to invest ₹650 crore in India during the current fiscal, which is about 30 per cent higher than the previous year.
Between 2010 and 2014, Bosch has invested ₹5,400 crore in India.
The construction of the Bidadi plant spans over two phases, with the second phase scheduled to be completed by 2018.
The Bidadi plant will produce diesel products that were previously manufactured at the Adugodi plant in Bengaluru, and would have over 2,600 associates working at the facility.
Like the previous location, the new plant in Bidadi will continue to be the lead plant for the production of single cylinder common rail pumps along with conventional fuel injection pumps.
Next year, the newer version of common rail fuel injection pump is expected to be produced at the plant.
“We see a lot of growth potential in India and strive to bring more projects, products and manufacturing to the country also in the future,” said Steffen Berns, President of Bosch in India and Managing Director of Bosch Ltd. In its new plant, Bosch will apply Industry 4.0, the new manufacturing process which eliminates disruption of processes leading to higher productivity. The new process incorporates a linear design for better maintenance of machines and easier materials movement.
