Bosch Rexroth India Pvt Ltd will open its Regional Centre for Competency in Automation Technologies at the Mijar campus of the Mangalore Institute of Technology and Engineering (MITE) on March 26.

Addressing presspersons at Mijar near here on Thursday, Mr Rajesh Chowta, President of the Rajalaxmi Education Trust, said the regional centre was the only facility of Bosch in southern Karnataka. (MITE is a unit of the Rajalaxmi Education Trust).

The regional centre has been set up at a cost of Rs 5.4 crore, with 75 per cent of the cost shared by Bosch and the rest by MITE, he said.

It has labs for testing on emerging sectors such as robotics, CNC technology, mechantronics, hydraulics and pneumatics, and PLC technology, which will expose students to the latest developments in these fields.

Apart from students of MITE, other engineering and diploma students from coastal Karnataka will also be able to make use of the facilities in the regional centre, he said. Personnel from Bosch will maintain the centre for the first two years.

Mr Chowta said Bosch has set up other such centres in Bagalkot and Gulbarga in northern Karnataka.

Mr M. Veerappa Moily, Union Minister for Law and Justice, will inaugurate the regional centre. Dr V.S. Acharya, Karnataka Minister for Higher Education, will be the chief guest, he added.
