Cabinet nod for Ordinance to hike cess on luxury vehicles

Mercedes-Benz India has said that the auto industry has requested the government to look at revising cess for the luxury cars after the festival season.
Roland Folger, MD & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, said: “We have no idea of the quantum of cess but we have asked the government to hold off till the festival season is over because the impact of higher prices will be significant.”
Folger was talking to mediapersons after launching the company’s 7th AMG performance Centre at Trans Cars here.
The luxury car industry has been contributing higher revenues by way of taxes to the government and creating jobs. “If the tax rates are maintained at lower levels then higher volumes will drive more investments and job generation, he said.
