Perkins, a subsidiary of US heavy equipment maker Caterpillar, would be investing about $150 million (Rs 780 crore) for setting up a manufacturing facility in Maharashtra.
The company would be manufacturing its 4,000 Series diesel and gas engines, which are used in power generators.
The manufacturing facility will be located in Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation’s Shendra Industrial Area in Aurangabad district.
Shendra Industrial Area has been incroporated in the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor project.
Senior officials in MIDC told Business Line that the Maharashtra Government would soon enter into a memorandum of understanding with the company.
The project would be granted a mega project status. Initial ground work could commence by June 2012 and within 12 months, the plant would be operational. The plant will have a capacity to produce 3,000 engines per year.
