Gujrat-based Champion Agro Ltd has firmed up plans to enter North India with 400 agro-malls over the next three years and will invest Rs 100 crore into its expansion plans over the next two years.

Further, the company has engaged Dr Omveer Singh, the former head of the Agri-business and corporate social responsibility (CSR) division of Bharti Group company Field Fresh Foods Pvt Ltd, as the new Chief Executive Officer.

“Dr Singh is perfectly in sync with the Champion ethos. His unique background with Field Fresh’s agri-business and NDDB is ideal for taking Champion Agro Fresh to the next level of growth. His vast experience in extension services, rural markets, horticulture and rural socio-economics will surely benefit Champion Agro in the years to come,” said Mr Dhirubhai Patel, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), Champion Agro.

Champion Agro, which has set up 40 one-stop-shops in Gujarat in a span of three years, also plans to hire 150-200 people over the next two to three years.

“It is a great opportunity for me to get associated with a company like Champion Agro, which is poised to break into the list of leading agri retailing companies in India,” said Dr Singh.
