The Cummins Group in India has opened its fourth facility, a Parts Distribution Center (PDC) at the Megasite in Phaltan today. The company also broke ground for a fifth project at the site, an Industrial Engine Upfit Centre.

The PDC will serve as a logistics hub and has been established to enhance supply chain efficiency in aftermarket parts distribution. With this new facility, the total investments by Cummins Group at the Megasite have reached approximately $100 million.

The company will now begin construction of its fifth facility, an Industrial Engine Upfit Centre for up-fitting diesel and natural gas mechanical and electronic B and L series engines. This facility will also manufacture C series engines. The range will serve the power generation, industrial and automotive sectors. Expected to commence production by mid 2012, this facility will manufacture 20,000 engines annually.

In January this year, Cummins had launched three facilities - the second manufacturing facility of Tata Cummins Limited, an engine rebuild centre and a reconditioning facility for re-manufacturing engines and components.

Mr Tom Linebarger, President & COO, Cummins Inc., said, “The concept of co-locating our businesses at a common campus offers us the competitive advantage of scale and helps achieve synergies of cost and efficiency.” The total project involves investments of around $400 million over the next few years, and demonstrates Cummins’ commitment to India, he said.
