Daikin India, a 100 per cent subsidiary of Japanese air-conditioning solutions provider Daikin Industries, has partnered with Department of Mechanical Engineering, University College of Engineering in Osmania University, to set up a centre of excellence.

This will be an air-conditioning/HVAC lab known as Daikin centre of excellence and expanded to other institutes. It will serve as a facility to upgrade skills with the support of Daikin.

Kanwal Jeet Jawa, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Daikin India, said, “This CoE is part of the company's efforts to drive excellence and aimed at skilling people to meet new challenges in the AC industry.”

The Indian and Japanese Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shinjo Abe signed up for skill upgradation where three Japanese corporations, Daikin, Toyota and Suzuki decided to be part of the drive to train over 20,000 engineers.

Thus far Daikin has set up several centres to groom workforce in new areas who could be deployed in shop floor of Japanese companies. One such centre by Daikin trains women engineers.

This partnership is aimed at upgradaing skills in the air-conditioning segment. Daikin will share its resources with institutes. And some students may be considered for placements opportunities in Daikin or its channel partners offering them internship, live projects or fixed term employment contracts.
