Dhoot Group, the Kolkata-based business conglomerate, has bagged two contracts worth Rs 435 crore from the Defence Ministry for construction of accommodation for defence personnel in Gujarat and Punjab, a company official said.

The company recently bagged a project worth Rs 225 crore from the Director-General, Married Accommodation Project, Ministry of Defence, for the construction of 1,585 units for the Army and Air Force in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar districts of Gujarat.

These units, spread over 80 acres, will have 19 lakh sq. ft of developed area, and will be completed in 25 months by February 2013, Mr Vaibhav Tapadiya, Executive Director, told Business Line .

Work on AN another project, worth Rs 210 crore, has already begun at Ferozepur, Punjab, and will be completed in 27 months. The project, in 197 acres, will have 17 lakh sq. ft of developed area with 380 blocks having 2,236 units, he said.

The Defence Ministry has allocated Rs 15,000 crore for construction of accommodation for the defence personnel in the next three years. Of this, contracts worth Rs 7,000 crore have so far been given, Mr Tapadiya said.

The company also expects to bag a Rs 200-crore project at Amritsar, Punjab.

The Dhoot Group has so far constructed five million sq. ft of developed area in the country. In the next three years, it plans to develop 1.7 million sq. ft in Chennai, seven lakh sq. ft in two projects at Kolkata, 30,000 sq. ft for a redevelopment project in Mumbai, a 120-acre township in Indore and two million sq. ft in two projects at Gurgaon, he added.
