Elgi Equipments’ compressors will come with IoT (Internet of Things) technology as a standard feature from early next year.

The $230-million company has come out with its new initiative Air Alert, a SIM card-based IoT service that will transmit the compressor’s performance data to the company for analysis and customer insights.

“We expect to offer Air Alert as a standard feature in our air compressors from early 2018,” Anvar Jay Varadaraj, Head of Marketing, said here.

The Coimbatore-based air compressor major has done a successful pilot retrofit programme on 50 old compressors installed across industrial units.

It is now aiming for retrofitment of Air Alert technology in about 500 compressors before the year-end. This will be done free.

Track multiple data Air Alert system has been designed to track multiple data such as operating temperature, pressure, volume of air delivered, and energy efficiency in a compressor and to transmit those data to Elgi’s servers to provide insights such as service intervals, energy efficiency, changes in air consumption, and general compressor health.

The company also expects to use the data for quality improvements and design failure-proof products in the future.

“This is also a perfect brand building exercise as it is a transparent mechanism under which solutions are offered based on running conditions,” he said.

Elgi Equipments said it would continue to give strong thrust on technology and innovation as part of its long term objective of becoming global Number 2 air compressor maker by 2027.
