Rakesh Srivastava, ex Director - Marketing and Sales at Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), has joined JSW Group’s leadership team that’s bringing out electric vehicles (EVs) by 2020.

Sources close to the development confirmed that Srivastava has joined JSW from Monday as a director, and his job will be to steer the ‘future mobility’ plan of the Sajjan Jindal Group company.

“There is confirmation that he (Srivastava) has joined the group and he is part of a founding leadership. The Indian business house will be manufacturing its own EVs by seeking technology from other countries,” a source in JSW told BusinessLine . Srivastava was not available for comments. He will work out of JSW’s Mumbai headquarters, the source said, adding that the EV project will be a new initiative for the ₹1-lakh-crore conglomerate.

Srivastava, who worked with HMIL for around six years, was earlier with Maruti Suzuki India for about 15 years. At HMIL, he is credited with executing a lot of transformational work including an expansion of channel partners.

He was named by Hyundai Global as ‘Executive of the Year’ in 2015, the first Indian employee to get the honour.

Last year, JSW Energy had revealed plans to enter the EV business. It has already appointed former General Motor veteran Sergio Luiz Pegoraro Rocha as the Chief Executive of the vertical.
