Amazon is expecting about five times growth in its home and kitchen category this festival season.

The company has launched its festival season sale called from October 1-5 to take on its arch-rival Flipkart’s Big Billion Day sale that starts from October 2 till October 8.

“The coming festival season looks very positive and there are good indicators overall. We are seeing a good traction for the Home and Kitchen category. Besides, there is huge enthusiasm from big brands," said Sumit Sahay, Category Leader, Home and Kitchen.

In a bid to achieve the growth, Amazon has taken onboard sellers across big and small brands and is improving capabilities to deliver the products.

It has also asked all the big brands such as Samsung, Bosch and Haier to improve their collection during the sale period so that there are no complaints regarding non-availability of products.

Amazon has set up 10 fulfilment centres to just stock home and kitchen related products and have improved capabilities to deliver in about 100 cities, especially for the large appliances. Besides, it has introduced exchange offer for this season.

"We have had a remarkable growth over the past 3 years and it is one of our fastest growing categories and is among the top four category," Sahay said

The selection on Amazon.in has grown over 170 per cent with 45,000 sellers on the platform selling under this category, according to the company.

Amazon.in has also partnered with various brands such as Urban Ladder to provide their customers with exclusive offering and wider selection.

Religious items have also seen a huge spike, Sahay said, adding that several small and local brands have improved their sales as they are now catering to consumers across the country.
