Driven by the huge demand for hatchback “Figo”, Ford India has reported a four-fold increase in January sales at 10,026 units against 2,453 units sold over the same month last year.
The company has surpassed its previous monthly record of 9,478 units sold in March 2010, Ford India said in a statement.
In January 2011, the company had sold 8,600 units of Figo, making it the hatchback’s best sales performance since its launch in March 2010.
“2010 was a landmark year for us, with Ford nearly tripling its annual sales volume. We have carried the momentum of last year’s terrific performance into the New Year by crossing the 10,000-unit sales mark,” the Ford India Managing Director, Mr Michael Boneham, said.
In 2010, Ford India had sold a total of 83,887 units, a jump of 184 per cent. The statement said that since its launch in March 2010, the Figo alone had sold 68,000 units.
“It’s extremely gratifying to see Figo resonating with customers as a great value for money vehicle. It is also heartening to see Figo winning so many prestigious awards in the automobile industry,” Mr Boneham added.
At Ford’s manufacturing facility in Maraimalai Nagar, Ford India manufactures Endeavour, Ikon, Fiesta and the Figo. It employs about 5,000 people at the facility.
