It was a rare sight for the people standing on the banks of the river Hooghly.

A barge, which has been transformed into a floating hotel, made its way through the fog-shrouded Hooghly river.

Floatel — the luxury hotel on the river Hooghly — came back to its moorings on Strand Road along the Hooghly this afternoon.

While the hotel was reinstated today, it will be operational later this month. Restaurants in the hotel will be operational by July 25, while lodging facilities will be opened to the public by the end of this month.

According to Mr Manab Pal, Managing Director, Manor Floatel Ltd, is expected to resume its services by the end of this month.

“While the restaurants will be opened in four to five days, the other operations will start by the end of July,” he said.

The hotel was taken to the Netaji Subhas dry dock for repair and replacement of its steel plates in May after seven years.

It also underwent safety tests according to the norms of the Indian Registrar of Shipping.

Even though Floatel was scheduled to return by June 12, the company missed its earlier deadline, as the welding work could not be completed due to high temperatures during May and June at the dry dock, Mr Pal said.
