Ford India has launched the second generation of its premium sports utility vehicle (SUV) Endeavour, with prices starting from ₹24.75 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai).

The premium SUV, which marks the company’s third launch in the current tfiscal, is being pitted against segment leader Toyota Fortuner.

“This is one of the most-known number plates in India, and users in the country want a substantial SUV that distinguishes them from the crowd.

The new Endeavour comes with an all-new design and features, making the best SUV in its segment,” said Ford India President and Managing Director Nigel Harris.

The vehicle is being launched with two engine options — Ford Duratorq 2.2- and 3.2-litre diesel engines mated to six-speed automatic or manual transmissions — six variants across two models Trend and Titanium.

The 3.2-litre Duratorq comes with five cylinders, generating 200 PS power and 470nm torque, while the 2.2-litre is being shipped with four cylinders those generate 160 PS peak power and 385nm torque.

The company claims the 3.2-litre variant provides a 10.91 km per litre mileage, and the 2.2-litre a fuel efficiency of 14.12 kmpl (manual transmission) and 12.62 kmpl (automatic transmission).

The vehicles will be assembled at its Chennai facility.

The top-end is priced at ₹29.46 lakh.

The US-based Ford Motor Company had launched the first Endeavour in India in 2003.

“We have an installed capacity to make 1,000 units per month,” Harris said, adding he expects Endeavour to post “good sales”.

He also said that the launch of the Endeavour was delayed by three weeks, as the company’s Chennai facility was impacted by the recent floods.
