Ford Motor Company said it was working on the next step of building mobility solutions in India and had been doing some test runs in various cities.

“The current paradigm of transport systems is not enough. They are getting less impressive and with the rising congestion, pollution and travel time getting longer, there is a need to focus on mobility,” Rajendra Rao, Chief Executive Officer, Ford Smart Mobility LLC, told BusinessLine in an interview.

The company is also in talks with State governments for various programmes on making transportations better with the help of data analytics, Rao said, adding that the company was currently in talks with the Maharashtra Chief Minister for improving the transport systems in the State.

The transportation models that exist around the world today simply will not work tomorrow, he said, adding that Ford aspired to see urban transport systems free from congestion, rich in choices and providing mobility for all.

To give some sense, the company held the ‘City of Tomorrow Symposium’ here to explore new ways of making cities work better through innovative uses of technology and collaboration between the public and private sectors.

The ‘City of Tomorrow’ reflects Ford’s long-term vision to help make people’s lives better by changing the way the world moves with world-class vehicles, mobility services and a wider range of transportation solutions, the company said.

As part of this strategy, Ford recently partnered with Indore city, signing a memorandum of understanding to work together to address their transportation issues. The collaboration will help the Indore public transport body manage its current and planned infrastructure through better implementation of technology and data analytics.

In essence, Ford will support the development of custom city transportation solutions for improved mobility in the city, the company added.
