City-based integrated wholesale ready-to-cook food start-up, Food Solution India Ltd (FSIL) has launched a range of preservatives-free packaged ready-to-cook products under the brand ‘Karamat’.

The company has set up a modern plant with a daily capacity of 20 tonnes near Ahmedabad and has recently received the US drug regulator Food and Drug Authority (US FDA) certification.

“This opens our doors for export to the US market. We have set a target to double our export in the next two years from the current ₹2 crore. Currently, we are exporting to eight countries, including the US, Australia and the UK,” said Mukesh Padhiyar, Managing Director, FSIL.

The products made from natural ingredients without preservatives will be used by bulk consumers such as hotels, restaurants and cafes.

“Our products have a shelf-life of 12-15 months without using preservatives and unhealthy inputs. We are planning to patent our process as it maintains the food quality and nutrition level intact for such a long period,” said Padhiyar.

The company has already launched more than 30 products in this category and achieved a turnover of ₹35 crore so far. “We have set a target of ₹100-crore turnover by 2020. We are increasing our distributors across India. Currently, we have strong presence in North India and West, but we are widening our presence in South and East also,” he added.

Set up in 2009 with investment of about ₹17 crore, the company has set up a facility at Kalol and employs 100 people.
