Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers and Chemicals Ltd (GNFC) today informed about a gas leak incident reported on Monday night at its toluene di-isocyanate (TDI) unit at Dahej near Bharuch.
The company said "a minor gas leak was noticed from the absorption tower circulation pump on May 28, 2018 at around 22.47 hours. The same was immediately sensed by an alarm and gas leak detector system and immediate safe shutdown of the equipment was undertaken," the company said, adding that the incident was localised and a very short duration leak and there was no gas ingress to any area outside the plant.
The safe shutdown actions of the plant were taken immediately after the leakage incident. This may cause a temporary shutdown of the plant for about three days and may not impact production or supplies as there is sufficient stock with the company, a top company official said.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the company further said the leakage was stopped in 13 minutes and as a matter of precaution and safety protocol, Rahiyad villagers were immediately informed and alerted.
"A few villagers, on their own insistence, were examined by company doctors and all of them were found not affected by any gas and were declared safe and discharged." GNFC shares traded negative on the stock exchanges at Rs 470.05, nearly 3 per cent down from their previous close.
