Green Gold Animation, creators of the comic character Chhota Bheem, plans to hire 1,250 animators in the next 18 months as it works on developing more content. The company has about 1,000 employees working on content development in India and in the US.

“We were under 500 people till December 2017. We are now 1,000 people. We will hire 200-250 animators more this year and 1,000 next year,” Rajiv Chilaka, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Green Gold Animation, told BusinessLine .

Talking on the sidelines of an event where the firm celebrated 10 years of Chhota Bheem here on Monday, he said the company will also also consider acquisitions.

The firm, which has not raised any funds so far, is planning to go for fund raising soon. “We are evaluating our expansion plans and requirement of funds. We will soon finalise the plan. We might also consider going for an initial public offering,” he said. He, however, did not elaborate on the amount of funds that the company would be looking to raise.

“We opened an office last year in Los Angeles in the United States where a team of 18 creators are developing content for us. They are working on 10-12 intellectual property projects there. In India, we are developing 6-8 IP projects,” he said.

Telangana IT Minister K T Rama Rao, who was present at the 10th ‘birth’ anniversary celebrations of Chhota Bheem, said that the success of Chhota Bheem was “a redefining moment” for the Indian animation industry.

He said the State government was coming up with 1.6-million sq ft IMAGE Towers in Hyderabad to promote animation, gaming and entertainment industry.
